Yaverland Beach Locked Down as Dangerous Flares Found
Yaverland Beach was put on lockdown after a worried dog walker stumbled upon a stash of unsafe flares. Hampshire Constabulary quickly swooped in this morning, sparking a military operation to destroy the hazardous items.
Army Called in to Handle Hazardous Flares
The Aldershot-based bomb disposal team was flown in to the Isle of Wight to deal with the expired flares. Authorities ruled the flares too dangerous to be moved off the island, forcing an on-site disposal.
Strict Exclusion Zone Enforced
A security cordon now seals off an 80-metre stretch of Yaverland Beach. Locals and visitors have been barred from entering the exclusion zone while experts work to safely neutralise the threat.
Second Detonation Needed to Destroy Flares
The first blast failed to completely destroy the flares, prompting a dramatic second explosion right in front of watching onlookers. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
