Staff attacked by shoplifters in Canterbury

A group of shoplifters have attacked security and staff members at Poundland’s after being caught attempting to leave the store without paying for goods. Security staff at the store made attempts to stop a man who is understood to have been released from prison on licence days earlier, it’s believed that he was part of a group. The man lashed out and assaulted the guard and other Poundland staff members as they attempted to stop him. The incident unfolded in the busy store on Saturday afternoon. Three sets of Police officers attended the store and it’s understood four people including the man were detained. Police remain at the store. Witnesses to the drama made claim that the man may have been carrying a weapon when he tried to fight off staff. The guard is not thought to be seriously hurt. Police say an investigation has been launched
