Lockdown Chaos at Crosshouse Hospital After Multiple Incidents
University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock was plunged into lockdown for three tense hours on Thursday evening. Ambulances were diverted while police scrambled to deal with a string of suspicious incidents.
Police Respond to Three Related Incidents
It all began around 7.45pm with the first call to the East Ayrshire hospital. Just 20 minutes later, officers were called to a second incident on Portland Street, about two miles from the hospital. A serious situation on the A76 outskirts followed at 8.30pm, with locals reporting sirens and a police helicopter overhead.
While police have not confirmed the exact nature of the incidents, it is understood a hospital staff member was seriously injured. Thankfully, authorities confirmed these events are not terror-related.
No Wider Threat, Police Reassure Public
“There is no cause for concern for the wider community,” a Police Scotland spokesperson said. “Inquiries are at an early stage and the areas involved remain cordoned off.”
Dr Crawford McGuffie, medical director of NHS Ayrshire and Arran, added:
“Police have confirmed the risk to patients, staff, and visitors is minimal. There is still a large police presence on hospital grounds. We want to reassure those coming to the hospital, especially patients and staff starting shifts, that it is safe to do so.”
