Tragic Murder Shocks Marlpit Lane Community

Stephen Harrington, 47, was found seriously injured on Marlpit Lane around 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, July 23. He was rushed by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital but sadly died two days later on Monday, July 25, surrounded by family.

Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute

Stephen’s grieving family said:

“Stephen, our son, brother, husband, father, nephew, uncle, and dear friend, was taken from us in a cruel and brutal way on July 23, 2022. His death has left us devastated, with an unfillable void in our lives.

“He was a devoted father who treasured every moment with his daughter, a hard worker, and a loving husband. Stephen’s love for his mother and sisters was obvious to all. As Uncle Steve, he was adored by nieces, nephews, and aunties alike.

“He was fiercely loyal and the most entertaining friend – always ready to help anyone in need. We face the heartbreaking reality that we’ll never see his smile, hear his laugh, or spend time with him again.

“If you have any information that can bring justice for Stephen, please come forward – not just for our family, but for the kind man who will never see his daughter grow up or walk her down the aisle. Please do it for Stephen.”

Three Men Charged with Murder

Police have charged three men in connection with Stephen’s killing:

  • Joseph Butler, 22, of Priors Leaze Lane, Hambrook
  • Tarin Hopkins, 20, of Common Road, Hambrook
  • Thomas Goldring, 20, of no fixed address

All appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 1, and were remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on Wednesday, August 3.
