At around 3.55pm, police were called to reports of an 11-year-old girl in distress at Liquid Leisure Windsor in Horton Road, Datchet.
Officers responded immediately to the report, working with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, and South Central Ambulance Service, and an extensive search was launched, with assistance from the National Police Air Service (NPAS).
Following this search, a girl was found around 5.10pm and taken to Wexham Park Hospital, where she sadly died.
An investigation has been launched into the girl’s death, which is being treated as unexplained.
Although formal identification has not yet occurred, the girl’s next of kin have been notified and officers are offering them assistance.
Superintendent Michael Greenwood, the local policing area commander for Windsor and Maidenhead, said, “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the girl who died as a result of this tragic incident.
We are still investigating this incident to determine the full scope of events.
All emergency services responded quickly, and after an extensive search of the lake, the girl, who was 11, was found at around 5.10pm and taken to hospital, but sadly died. “This has been an extremely traumatic and upsetting incident for all involved.”
“I am aware that several members of the public entered the lake shortly after the girl became disoriented and were unable to locate her.”
“I’d like to commend them on their bravery and courage.”
My heartfelt condolences go out to the girl’s family and friends, and I would appreciate it if their privacy could be respected during this extremely traumatic and distressing time for them.
