Tewkesbury School, a secondary school located on Ashchurch Road in Gloucestershire, has been placed on an urgent lockdown as police respond to an ongoing “incident.” The school premises are currently surrounded by emergency services, after a Teacher was stabbed in a class we can reveal.
A parent who spoke with her son revealed that the stabbing took place within the classroom.
Police have not provided specific details regarding the reason for the lockdown as they continue their inquiries. In light of the situation, nearby Tirlebrook Primary School has also been instructed to keep its students and staff inside until the matter is resolved.
In a Facebook post, Tirlebrook Primary School addressed the families, stating, “Dear Families, an incident occurred this morning at Tewkesbury Academy (Tewkesbury School), and we have been advised by Tewkesbury Police to implement a lockdown. We have a police presence at the school and are receiving full support at this time.”
The primary school reassured parents that the children at Tirlebrook and Little Oaks are safe and in good health. Families were requested not to visit the school during this period, as it could compromise the ongoing police operation and the safety of the children. The school’s staff members are actively supporting the students and cooperating with the police, and the post advised against attempting to contact the school office during this situation.
A Spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said :
An adult has been taken to hospital with a suspected stab wound following an incident at Tewkesbury School.
Police were called around 9.10am today (Monday 10 July) with a report a pupil had stabbed a teacher.
A teenage boy has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Parents or carers of pupils at the school are being advised to go to Dobbies Garden Centre on Diamond Road where police will be able to offer assistance.
Updates regarding the situation will be provided to the community as soon as additional information becomes available. As the police work diligently to address the matter, the cooperation and support of the families are greatly appreciated.
