DIY SOS and Radio 2 Join Forces for Big Build Charity Project

DIY SOS is back with a bang, teaming up again with Radio 2 for the BBC Children in Need Big Build. Marking their 10th project for the charity, the team will construct a brand-new children’s counselling and therapy centre at Treetops Hospice in Risley, Derbyshire.

A Lifeline for Bereaved Kids and Families

The new centre will offer traumatised children and families across Derbyshire a specially designed space for counselling and support. With backing from Radio 2, the Big Build will leave a lasting legacy in the East Midlands. This effort coincides with Radio 2’s huge live music event, Radio 2 in the Park, taking place at Victoria Park in Leicester on 16-17 September, featuring headliners like Tears for Fears and Kylie Minogue.

Nick Knowles and Team Roll Up Their Sleeves

DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles leads a star-studded crew including Chris, Billy, and designer Gabrielle Blackman. BBC Radio 2 hosts will also pitch in, swapping mics for hard hats and hi-vis vests. A battalion of volunteers will race against the clock, constructing the bespoke building from scratch in just 10 days.

Specialised Spaces for Healing and Support

The centre will feature tailor-made rooms for counselling and complementary therapies. A multi-functional space will provide vital help for those grappling with traumatic bereavement, creating a warm and welcoming environment that truly cares.

Decades of Dedication at Treetops Hospice

For over 40 years, Treetops Hospice has supported adults with life-limiting conditions. Since 2010, BBC Children in Need’s funding has helped hundreds of bereaved children and families, cementing Treetops’ status as a beacon of excellence in children’s counselling.

Nick Knowles said, “We have another huge build ahead of us in Derbyshire, which will provide a crucial space for children and their families who are going through some of the toughest times. If you have a trade, a skill, can spare some time to graft or help with materials, then get in touch. It’ll be a blast.”

Tommy Nagra, Director of Content at BBC Children in Need, also highlighted the project’s impact and praised Radio 2 for creating a lasting legacy in the East Midlands.
