Met Police Officer Charged with Two Rapes

PC Rupert Edwards, 30, a Met Police officer, is facing two rape charges linked to attacks in Lambeth, south London, and Epsom, Surrey. The alleged crimes took place in August and September while he was off duty.

Bail Conditions and Court Dates

Edwards, from Ashtead, Surrey, was granted bail but is banned from entering the M25 except for court appearances. He must also adhere to an electronically monitored curfew from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. The officer failed to attend his recent hearing.

Victims and Legal Proceedings

  • The alleged victims are women in their twenties and thirties.
  • PC Edwards was arrested on September 5 on suspicion of rape and was immediately placed on administrative leave.
  • His next court appearance is set for Monday at Inner London Crown Court.

“The officer did not show up for the hearing,” said Judge Freya Newbery, who imposed strict bail conditions including electronic monitoring.
