Teen Shoots Himself in Foot with Shotgun, Avoids Jail

A 17-year-old boy, whose name can’t be revealed for legal reasons, was handed a 12-month referral order at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, 27 January. The youngster accidentally shot himself in the foot with a shotgun.

Guilty Plea for Firearm Offence

Back on 1 December 2022, the teen pled guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. The court also sentenced 19-year-old Tyrese Campbell of Chrislea Close, Hounslow, to 14 months behind bars after he admitted carrying a firearm in public on the same day.

How the Incident Unfolded

Just before midnight on 11 March 2022, the 17-year-old arrived at hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot. He claimed someone else had shot him. But police investigations proved otherwise.

  • CCTV footage and eyewitnesses showed he accidentally fired the shotgun, which was hidden in his waistband, while walking down Lionel Road North, TW8.
  • Campbell was nearby and took the shotgun after the incident.

Police Crackdown on Gun Crime

“The 17-year-old and Campbell possessed the shotgun illegally, clearly intending to cause fear, if not worse,” said Detective Constable Katie Newton of the Specialist Crime Command.

“Gun crime ties closely to gangs, drug markets and organised crime. We’ll use every tool to disrupt firearms on London’s streets.”

“But we can’t do it alone. The public’s info on where guns are stored and who uses them helps speed up removing these weapons.”
