Man Murdered on Canvey Island – Cops Say No Wider Threat

Targeted Attack Rocks Canvey Island

A man in his 40s was found seriously injured in the car park of the Iceland supermarket on Furtherwick Road, just before 1.45am on Saturday, 4 February. Sadly, he later died.

Investigation Focused on Local Pub

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, leading the inquiry, revealed the victim and suspects had been at The Haystack pub earlier that evening. He said:

“Our investigation is progressing well and we are building a picture of the circumstances which led up to this fatal assault.”

“I believe that someone who was in the pub or lives locally will know the identity of those responsible. I urge anyone with information to contact us.”

Public Reassured: No Threat to Wider Community

DCI Wood stressed the attack appears to have been targeted. He added:

“At this stage, I believe the assault was a targeted attack and does not pose a threat to the wider public.”

Police have maintained a cordon around the scene, which is expected to remain into Sunday as enquiries continue. The detective thanked locals for their patience.

“I know this has caused disruption to the centre of Canvey today but it has been to allow essential work to take place and I want to thank the public for their patience and understanding.”
