Dad Jailed for Life Over Shocking Murder of Baby Son
Reece Kelly, 31, has been locked up for life after being found guilty of murdering his four-month-old son, Dallas Kelly. He must serve at least 18 years behind bars. Meanwhile, Georgia Wright, 23, was handed a three-year sentence for child cruelty.
Horrific Abuse Revealed in Court
The grim case unfolded after Dallas died on October 19, 2021, just days after paramedics were called by Kelly, who claimed his baby was unresponsive. A police probe uncovered that Dallas’ injuries were caused by violent shaking. Medical experts said the damage was as severe as injuries from a multi-storey fall or a deadly car crash.
At Carlisle Crown Court, both Kelly and Wright initially denied any wrongdoing. But on day one of the trial, Kelly admitted to manslaughter, nearly two years after the tragedy.
Parents’ Neglect and Drug Use Exposed
Detectives revealed the couple neglected Dallas, skipping his medical appointments and exposing him to harmful drugs. Evidence showed they put their own drug habits ahead of their son’s health. Medical experts testified Dallas had previously suffered a rib fracture and brain injury on separate occasions.
“Dallas was a defenceless four-month-old who deserved parents who would prioritise his well-being,” said Detective Superintendent Jenny Beattie, who led the investigation. “There is no excuse for causing harm to a child.”
Justice for Baby Dallas
Beattie praised the prosecution team, jury, and investigators for their hard work in securing justice. Senior Crown Prosecutor Victoria Agulló condemned the chaotic, drug-fuelled lifestyle that led to Dallas’ avoidable death.
“Dallas’ tragic death was the result of his parents’ failure to care for him,” Agulló said. “We hope this verdict brings some justice to those who loved him.”
