A man has tragically died following a fatal incident on the M5 in Somerset involving a lorry and a pedestrian.
Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway between Junction 24 (Bridgwater South) and Junction 25 (Taunton) at 2.45pm on Wednesday, 26 February after reports of a collision.
A man in his 50s sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified and will receive support from specialist officers.
Motorway Closure and Investigation
The M5 was closed in both directions for several hours to allow collision investigators and emergency crews to attend the scene.
- The northbound carriageway reopened at 6.15pm
- The southbound remained closed for several more hours before reopening later in the evening
Authorities thanked motorists for their patience and understanding during the disruption caused by the tragic incident.
