Inquest Opened for Collier Row Man Who Died in Rainham Car Crash

An inquest has been opened for a Collier Row man, Laimonas Narvydas, who died in a fatal car crash on Valentine’s Day in Rainham.

Laimonas Narvydas, 37, of Cross Road, was one of two men who died after the February 14 collision on the A13 near the Ferry Lane Interchange.

Crash Details

Mr Narvydas was a passenger in an Audi travelling west on the A13 when it lost control while travelling at speed and clipped another vehicle. This caused the Audi to skid, cross the central reservation, and collide with a Honda Jazz.

The driver of the Honda Jazz was also killed and has been named locally as ‘Kalin’.

Investigation and Coroner’s Findings

Coroner’s officer Jean Smyth told East London Coroner’s Court that CCTV and dash cam footage had captured the incident.

Mrs Nadia Persaud, the coroner, said:

“I’m satisfied on those facts this death occurred in circumstances requiring an inquest.”

She confirmed that a police investigation is ongoing and that if charges are brought, the inquest will be adjourned until legal proceedings conclude.

Mr Narvydas, who was Lithuanian, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:23 PM by a doctor from the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). His cause of death was confirmed as “multiple severe traumatic injuries.”

His body was later identified by his partner, and an online fundraiser mentioned that he leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter.

The coroner declared his family “interested persons,” granting them the right to review evidence and question witnesses. She also asked them to submit a statement about Mr Narvydas, including any concerns they have about his death.

Third Man Injured, Arrest Made

A third man involved in the crash was hospitalised with life-changing injuries.

A man in his mid-40s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail until late March.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

The Metropolitan Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage of the incident to come forward.
