Multiple arrests made in Worksop after spate of arson attacks
Fire at Abandoned Vet Centre Sparks Rapid Police Action
Nottinghamshire Police have swooped after a string of arson attacks rocked Worksop. The latest blaze broke out Sunday evening (19 May) at around 7.30pm at the abandoned St Anne’s Veterinary Centre on Newcastle Avenue – deliberately set on fire.
Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, while police used CCTV footage to track down suspects. Within hours, four people were in custody.
Who’s Been Arrested?
- 13-year-old girl
- 15-year-old girl
- 44-year-old man
- 10-year-old boy (later released on bail)
All but the youngest remain held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
Earlier Arrests Linked to Arson Spree
This latest haul follows the arrest of a 13-year-old boy on Friday 16 May suspected of setting six fires. Then, on Sunday afternoon (19 May), police also arrested a 12-year-old boy for arson.
Police believe these youngsters are behind a wave of deliberate fires earlier this month, including:
- Grassland and trees scorched at Kilton Forest Golf Course on 7, 9, 12 and 13 May
- Playground equipment set ablaze at Prospect Park, Northwood, on 12 May evening
Police Tighten Patrols as Community on Edge
Nottinghamshire Police have boosted patrols around affected areas as the investigation continues. Juvenile suspects remain on police bail while inquiries ramp up.
“This reckless behaviour has put lives at risk and caused distress in the local community,” said a Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson. “We are taking this matter extremely seriously. Swift arrests have been made thanks to CCTV and public assistance.”
