Tesco’s Brilliant New Plan: Grab Free Yellow Sticker Food After 9.30pm!

Tesco is trialling a game-changing scheme to slash food waste. In select Tesco Express stores, yellow sticker items – usually discounted because they’re close to their use-by date – will scan at £0.00 after 9.30pm at self-checkouts.

That’s right: customers can bag these items for free, helping prevent perfectly good food from going in the bin.

Tesco Takes on Food Waste with Bold Move

This daring initiative is part of Tesco’s ongoing fight against the staggering 9.5 million tonnes of food wasted in the UK every year, according to Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

Tesco has vowed to reach net zero waste, and this fresh approach could be a major breakthrough. It complements efforts like community donation partnerships with FareShare, but now puts direct perks into shoppers’ hands.

“This is such a great idea, I hope all the other shops and supermarkets join them,” said one impressed local shopper on social media.

Will More Supermarkets Follow Suit?

Tesco’s pilot mirrors similar experiments by rivals like Co-op, Morrisons, and Iceland, who have tried flexible pricing, late-night donations, and apps like Too Good To Go to cut down waste.

Sustainability experts are backing Tesco’s scheme. Dr Ella Martin from University College said:

“It’s a common-sense solution that rewards thrift and reduces emissions.”

What’s Next for Tesco’s Waste-Busting Trial?

The pilot’s results will decide if Tesco rolls this free yellow sticker deal out nationwide. If it takes off, it could spark a seismic shift in how UK retailers tackle food waste.

So late-night Tesco Express shoppers might soon score free fresh food while helping the planet. Not bad for a quick shop!
