A brutal attack at a Hammersmith hospital has sparked a murder probe after an 85-year-old man died from his injuries.
85-Year-Old Dies After Shocking Hospital Assault
On Thursday, 18 September, police were called to Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith following reports of an assault between patients. Andrew Farmer, 85, from Ealing, was the victim. He tragically passed away a week later, on 25 September, from his wounds. His devastated family is receiving ongoing support from specialist officers.
Suspect Nabbed and Charged
At the scene, officers arrested 70-year-old Anatoliy Podmazko, who has no fixed address. He was charged with grievous bodily harm on 20 September. But with Andrew’s death, police have now launched a full murder investigation. Podmazko is set to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 17 October. Authorities are working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service as the case heats up.
Touching Tribute from Victim’s Partner
“My partner through thick and thin for 60 years. Now sadly missed. An Oxford First – whatever he touched, he touched deeply – opera, Devon topography, the underprivileged. Scholarly but with a wry sense of humour. Rest now, my dear friend.” – Paul Wrigley, Andrew’s partner
Detective Inspector Speaks Out
Detective Inspector Kirsten Hadleigh, leading the murder inquiry, said: “Our thoughts remain with Andrew’s family and friends at this undoubtedly difficult time. We are keeping them updated with the progress of our investigation and remain fully committed to justice for Andrew.”
