Four North East crooks nabbed in a massive fake Covid jab passport scam. A tough crackdown by the National Crime Agency (NCA) and NHS England has exposed the fraudsters selling bogus Covid vaccine records during the pandemic.
Fake Covid Vaccine Passport Scandal Rocks North East
The NCA named the accused: Christopher Thompson, 36, from Horden; Shahid Hussain, 33, from Middlesbrough; plus Ian Taylor, 42, and Abbey-Leigh Coates, 25, both from Darlington. They were arrested between early 2022 and 2023 for forging and selling fake Covid vaccination certificates.
Over 1,100 Fake Jab Records Created
Shockingly, the gang churned out a staggering 1,168 fake vaccine records between June 2021 and January 2022. Even worse, some of these counterfeit certificates were crafted right inside a health centre in Darlington.
Authorities Crack Down on Covid Fraud
The joint NCA and NHS probe shows no tolerance for Covid passport scams. The fraudulent operation not only cheated the system but also risked public health during a critical time. Police vow to bring more scammers to justice.
