Ashley Warren, 42, aka Wyless Man, has been sentenced to 10 years and three months in prison after one of his XL bully dogs mauled his 68-year-old mother-in-law to death in a horrific 12-minute attack.
Deadly Attack Comes Days After XL Bully Ban
Warren left Esther Martin in charge of two XL bully dogs at his Jaywick, Essex home while he travelled to London to film a music video. The savage attack happened just two days after the UK’s nationwide XL bully ban kicked in on February 1, 2024.
Poor Treatment and Neglect Revealed
The court heard the dogs had not been walked for four weeks and were kept in “impoverished” conditions. Warren was found guilty of owning Bear, the dog that went “dangerously out of control” and caused Martin’s death.
He also faced a separate charge for having a knife when arrested, though he claimed it was just a video prop.
Bragged Online, Now Backing the Ban
Warren had boasted on social media about breeding XL bully puppies and flogging them for £500 a pop. He posted defiant messages like, “don’t tell me what to do with my f dogs.” After the tragedy, he says he now fully supports the XL bully ban.
“If there’s one thing that will change your mind on the XL Bully ban, it’s having them maul your mum-in-law to death in your own home,” a court insider revealed. “Warren clearly regrets it, but he was never fit to own these deadly dogs.”
Lifelong Dog Ban for Warren
Besides his lengthy jail term, Warren is banned for life from owning dogs. Critics say this is vital to stop dangerous breeders like him from pumping out vicious dogs to clueless owners.
