Hit-and-Run Shocker in Westcliff
A 50-year-old man remains in critical condition after being struck by a stolen car in a terrifying hit-and-run on Crowstone Road, Westcliff. The incident happened at around 7.30am on Thursday 16 April, when a white Mercedes C-Class, registration YD14 OHT, collided with a pedestrian before speeding off.
Suspect in Custody as Police Launch Appeal
Essex Police quickly acted, charging 26-year-old James Wallace, who has no fixed abode, with attempted murder and handling stolen goods. He was remanded in custody and appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 April.
Police Urge Public to Help Crack Case
Officers are still piecing together what led to the shocking collision. They’re keen to hear from anyone who saw the white Mercedes in Sutton Road, Crowstone Road, or Britannia Road on the morning of the incident. Witnesses should contact Essex Police via their Major Incident Public Portal or call 101, quoting incident 177 of 16 April.
“The 50-year-old man received immediate treatment from members of the public, officers, and ambulance service colleagues. He was taken to the hospital, where he remains in a critical condition,” Essex Police said.
