A violent prison assault has landed four inmates an extra two and a half years behind bars. The shocking incident, captured on mobile phone, left one prisoner with a devastating injury.

Horrific Cell Attack Leaves Prisoner Seriously Hurt

Inside HMP Berwyn, inmate Qasim Afzal suffered a severe testicle injury after a brutal, filmed attack by four fellow prisoners. The assault took place in February 2024 as a form of “punishment,” Caernarfon Crown Court was told. Judge Timothy Petts revealed that one of Afzal’s testicles had “effectively died” and was likely removed in surgery, though no official update has been given on his current medical condition.

Attack Planned and Filmed to Intimidate Others

Afzal, previously convicted for seriously injuring a baby, was cornered in his cell by Zayn Abu-Manahim, Zaheer Hussain, Farhar Khan, and Russell Lloyd. The quartet was admitted to causing grievous bodily harm without intent following a coordinated assault. Prosecutor Oliver King said: “He had no escape.” The attack went on for nearly a minute despite Afzal being warned and given a weapon beforehand. The group recorded the violent episode, intending to share it on WhatsApp “to serve as an example to others.” Judge Petts said the filming was as serious as the attack itself.

Extra Jail Time for Four Inmates

All four men were handed additional sentences of two and a half years each, to be served consecutively on top of their existing prison terms. This brutal episode shines a light on the ongoing violence and intimidation behind bars. The full details of Afzal’s medical condition remain under wraps, leaving questions about the toll of prison justice.
