Knife Amnesty Nets 19 Weapons in Southampton
Hampshire police are cracking down on knife crime with a bold amnesty drive. In just two weeks, 19 knives were dropped off at Southampton Central police station. Amnesty bins have been set up at four police stations across Hampshire as part of the nationwide Operation Sceptre campaign.
Hand In Knives Without Fear
The public is urged to ditch their knives and bladed weapons worry-free. The knives can be surrendered without any legal consequences. The aim? To clear dangerous weapons off the streets and educate people on the deadly risks tied to carrying knives.
Chief Inspector Sounds Warning
“After the first two weeks of this amnesty we have had 19 weapons handed in in Southampton; that’s 19 weapons off the street which can no longer be used to harm anybody,” said Chief Inspector Claire Taylor.
“The amnesty runs until July 20. It’s your chance to hand in illegal weapons and walk away without prosecution. Carrying a knife doesn’t protect you — it puts you at greater risk of serious injury, arrest, or worse.”
“We have ongoing intelligence on knife carriers and will take tough action against anyone caught carrying blades illegally.”
