Met Office Slaps Sussex with Level 3 Cold Weather Alert

The Met Office has issued a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert covering Sussex and parts of the UK from Monday, January 16th, through to Friday morning. Brace yourself for a frosty week ahead.

Bitter Chill and Icy Conditions Expected

“Cold air has spread south across much of the country overnight Sunday into Monday,” the Met Office warned. “Daytime temperatures will struggle to rise above freezing. Expect widespread frost, brisk north to northwesterly winds, and spells of wintry showers.”

Icy conditions could develop, especially with the coastal showers pushing inland. While the cold grip might ease in the Southwest later in the week, there’s low confidence in any quick warm-up for the weekend.

Stay Safe: Who’s Most at Risk?

Warning: Those aged 65 and over, with long-term illnesses, or limited mobility should take special care. Keep indoor temperatures at a minimum of 18°C. Make sure vulnerable friends and family have access to warm food and drinks and are heating their homes properly.

Avoid unnecessary trips into icy, cold conditions if you’re at higher risk of falls or cold-related illnesses. Stay updated with developments at the 123, call NHS 111, or speak to your local pharmacist.
