Chilly blast hits Sussex and beyond as Met Office rings level 3 Cold Weather Alarm
Freezing Temps Lock UK in Ice Grip
The Met Office has slapped a level 3 Cold Weather alert over Sussex and large parts of the UK starting today, 16th January 2023, lasting until Friday morning. Bitter cold air has swept southwards overnight Sunday into Monday, sparking widespread frost and keeping daytime temperatures stubbornly below freezing.
Wind and Wintry Showers Make It Worse
Brisk north to northwesterly winds could push coastal showers inland, risking icy roads and pavements. The Met Office warns these conditions will persist most of the week, although there’s uncertainty if the southwest might see some mild weather later on. Don’t count on warmth anytime soon.
Stay Safe, Keep Warm – Here’s How
- Check in on vulnerable friends and family, especially the elderly or those with health issues.
- Make sure they can heat their homes to at least 18°C and have access to warm food and drinks.
- Avoid dangerous outdoor trips if you’re at higher risk of cold-related illness or slips on ice.
- Keep updated with the latest forecasts via the Met Office website.
