Fatal Shooting at M62 Junction 24

A man was shot and killed during a dramatic police operation on the M62 tonight, West Yorkshire Police confirmed. The shooting happened at around 6pm near Junction 24.

Police Firearm Discharged During Pre-Planned Operation

A force spokeswoman said: “Around 6pm this evening (Tuesday January 2), during a pre-planned policing operation near the M62, a police firearm was discharged and a man has died.”

She added that the slip roads east and westbound at Junction 24 remain closed following the incident.

Investigation Underway, Complaints Commission Involved

An immediate referral has been made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), who are currently at the scene. West Yorkshire Police are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The slip roads around Junction 24 were shut this evening as police carried out their operation, causing major disruption on the busy motorway.
