Major Portsmouth Road Shut After Woman Hit by Bus

A busy Portsmouth street has been closed after a woman was struck and trapped under a bus, sparking a huge emergency response.

Emergency Crews Rush to Scene on Park Lane

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue were called to Park Lane just after 11.30pm on Saturday, January 29. Firefighters used two fire engines, a rescue tender, and an officer to free the woman from underneath the bus.

Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service are now caring for the victim. Hampshire Police have sealed off multiple nearby roads including St Georges Road, Gunwharf Road, Park Road, Burnaby Road, and Ordnance Row, blocking access to both vehicles and pedestrians.

Police and Firefighters Quick on the Scene

“One person has been released from under the bus by firefighters and South Central Ambulance Service,” said a Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson. “The person has now been handed into the care of SCAS. We are unable to release any further details at this time.”

Officers arrived within minutes of being alerted at 11.36pm and remain on site as investigations continue.

The road closures are causing delays across the area. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes until further notice.
