Police Officer Injured in Bottle Attack Near Buckingham Palace
A police officer was left injured after being hit in the face with a bottle during a violent incident close to Buckingham Palace earlier this month.
Violent Scene on Buckingham Palace Road
The attack took place around 6pm on Tuesday, March 18, on Buckingham Palace Road. British Transport Police (BTP) quickly responded to reports of a man acting aggressively while waving an empty alcohol bottle near the royal landmark.
Man Strikes Officers with Bottle
A BTP spokesperson said officers approached the suspect, a man in his 30s, and asked him to drop the bottle. “The man then raised the bottle and hit one officer in the arm, causing a visible wound. Another officer was struck in the face, leaving them injured,” they explained.
Arrest Made at the Scene
The aggressive individual was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
BTP Appeals for Witnesses
British Transport Police are urging anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward. You can contact them by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 2500032656. Alternatively, reports can be made anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Officers engaged with the man to try and get him to drop the bottle. The man then raised the bottle and hit one officer in the arm, causing a wound, and another officer suffered a wound to the side of their face,” said BTP.
Both officers were treated for their injuries and are expected to recover fully. Police presence around Buckingham Palace has since returned to normal.
