Teen Arrested After Man Found Dead in Oxford

A 17-year-old boy from Oxford is in police custody, arrested on suspicion of murder following a shocking discovery in Barton.

Body Found in Barton Home

On Sunday, officers were called to a property on Brome Place, Barton, where they found the body of a 50-year-old man. It’s believed he was assaulted the night before, but no report was made to police at the time.

Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward

Detective Inspector Mike Roddy from the Major Crime Unit said:

“I am still appealing to anyone near the shops by Underhill Circus between 8.30pm and 10pm on Saturday evening who may have seen a man being assaulted to get in touch.”

He also called for dash-cam or CCTV footage, urging people to contact Thames Valley Police quoting incident reference 858 (24 April). Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Community Left Reeling, Police Investigate

Superintendent Bruce Riddell, Oxford’s local policing commander, said:

“This tragic event has naturally caused concern in the Barton community. We believe this was an isolated incident with the victim and offender known to each other. There’s no link to previous violence in the area.”

He confirmed police have made an arrest but warned against speculation while the Major Crime Unit carries on with a “thorough investigation.”

Superintendent Riddell added:

“You’ll see more police presence in Barton as we follow several lines of enquiry. We’re making good progress and encourage anyone with info to come forward. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this very difficult time.”

Families affected are being supported by specially trained officers, with police asking for their privacy to be respected.
