Teen Arrested Over Oxford Murder of 50-Year-Old Man
A 17-year-old boy from Oxford is in police custody, arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a man’s body in Barton.
Man Found Dead After Weekend Assault
Officers were called on Sunday to a property in Brome Place, Barton, where they found the body of a 50-year-old man. It’s believed the man was assaulted the night before, but police had not been alerted prior to the discovery.
Police Hunt Witnesses and Footage
Detective Inspector Mike Roddy of the Major Crime Unit urged anyone near the shops around Underhill Circus between 8.30pm and 10pm on Saturday to come forward.
“If you witnessed any assault or have dash-cam or CCTV footage, please contact Thames Valley Police quoting incident 858 (24 April). Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111,” DI Roddy said.
Community Shocked but Urged Not to Speculate
Superintendent Bruce Riddell, local policing commander for Oxford, reassured the public that the incident appears isolated and is not linked to previous violence in the area. He added the victim and suspect likely knew each other.
“We have made an arrest and are thoroughly investigating. Police presence will remain high in Barton while enquiries continue. Please avoid speculation and share any information to help our investigation,” Supt Riddell said.
He extended condolences to the family of the deceased, who are receiving support from specialist officers. The force asks for privacy during this difficult time.
