Human Remains in Croydon Confirmed as Sarah Mayhew
The Metropolitan Police have identified human remains found in a Croydon field as 38-year-old Sarah Mayhew. A murder investigation is now underway after her body was discovered in Rowdowns Field, New Addington, on April 2.
Two Arrested as Police Launch Murder Probe
Officers arrested a 44-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman on suspicion of Sarah’s murder. Both suspects were known to her and remain in custody as inquiries continue. The normally peaceful green space became a bustling crime scene, cordoned off while forensic teams and police dogs scoured the area for evidence.

Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, leading the investigation, confirmed the family have been informed and are receiving support from liaison officers. “This is a heart-wrenching situation, and our thoughts are with Sarah’s family as they come to terms with this tragic news,” he said. “We are committed to providing them with all the support they need as we continue our inquiries.”
Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain acknowledged the shock felt in New Addington and pledged heightened police presence to reassure locals. “We understand the impact this has had on the community. We thank the public for their patience and support, which has been crucial to our investigations,” he said.
