Tragic Crash on A89 Claims Life of Motorcyclist
Lothian Road Policing officers urgently want to hear from witnesses after a fatal smash on the A89 between Armadale and Westrigg on Friday night. The crash happened around 9.15pm on August 11, 2023, involving a Toyota Celica and a motorcycle.
Motorcyclist Natalie Hawkins Dies at Scene
Emergency services raced to the scene but sadly a 35-year-old female motorcyclist, Natalie Hawkins, was pronounced dead at the site. Her family released a heartfelt statement, saying she was someone who “embodied the idea that the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.” Natalie’s two daughters and loved ones are left devastated by her sudden loss.
Toyota Driver Taken to Hospital; Road Closed for Hours
The Toyota Celica driver, a 20-year-old man, ended up on the grass verge after veering off the road. He was taken to hospital as a precaution. Police shut the A89 for several hours to carry out a full investigation into the collision.
Investigation Ongoing – Police Appeal for Witnesses
A 20-year-old man was briefly held in connection with road offences linked to the crash but has now been released as inquiries continue. Sergeant Scott Kirkpatrick, leading the investigation, urged anyone near the A89 at the time to get in touch. He stressed: “Motorists who may have dashcam footage are especially encouraged to come forward. This could be crucial to understanding what happened.”
