Thief Caught Red-Handed Dumping Stolen Safe in Broad Daylight
Joshua Deverill thought he could pull off a quick heist in Hucknall on November 8, 2022. At around 3pm, he sneaked into a flat on Ogle Street. Just 20 minutes later, he was spotted running down the street with a black safe in his hands.

In a desperate bid to escape, Deverill hurled the heavy safe over a fence before leaping over himself and vanishing. What he didn’t know? Eyewitnesses and CCTV had caught the whole daring escape on camera. The footage gave police the perfect ID on the crook.
£1,000 Stolen – Crook Busted and Jailed
The 28-year-old wasn’t just hauling off the safe. Investigators found he had also pinched £1,000 from the property. Deverill, currently held at HMP nottingham/" title="Nottingham" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Nottingham, pleaded guilty to burglary at Nottingham Crown Court on March 24. He was slammed with a 2½-year jail sentence.
Police Warn: Don’t Think You Can Get Away With It
“Deverill’s senseless actions in breaking into the address, stealing money, and believing he could get away with it in such plain sight shows his complete disregard for the upset he would cause to the victim,” said Detective Constable Millie Gillett of Nottinghamshire Police’s burglary team.
“Our ongoing work ensures offenders targeting our communities are caught and brought to justice. I hope this case shows the public how vital it is to report burglaries—we take every incident seriously.”
