Care Home Horror: Man Charged Over New Year’s Eve Sexual Assault

Suspect in Custody After Shocking Attack

Jake Astley, 21, homeless, now faces serious charges after a terrifying incident at an Oldham care home. Police arrested him at the scene just after 2.40am on Sunday, 1 January 2023.

Astley is charged with:

  • Knowingly trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence
  • Committing an offence with the intention of a sexual offence
  • Assault
  • Affray

He remains in custody and is set to appear at Tameside Magistrates Court on 3 January 2023.

Community in Shock as Police Respond

Superintendent Philip Hutchinson of GMP’s Oldham District spoke out: “This incident has understandably caused distress to the care home residents, their families, staff, and the wider community. Our hearts go out to the victim and her family, who are being supported by specialist officers.”

He reassured the public, saying, “This type of incident is very rare. We’re working closely with Oldham Council and partner agencies to keep residents safe. We are determined to see that justice is served.”
