Man Jailed for 12 Years After Police Find Guns, Drugs and Machetes in Enfield
Coskun Coskun, 33, from Cameron Close, Enfield, was slammed with a 12-year prison sentence this week at Wood Green Crown Court. The haul of offences he admitted to is jaw-dropping:
- Two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm
- Two counts of possession of ammunition without a certificate
- Possession of class A drugs with intent to supply
- Possession of class B drugs with intent to supply
- Possession of a firearm without a certificate
- Possession of a bladed article
Police Called to Dangerous Dogs Leads to Massive Firearms Bust
It all began on 10 August 2019 when officers were called to a flat on St Paul’s Rise, Southgate N13, over reports of dangerous dogs. Alongside two dogs, officers uncovered a loaded Glock pistol hidden in a bag under the bed, plus a balaclava, gloves, and drugs.
Forensic tests confirmed DNA that pointed directly to Coskun. A nationwide search led police to arrest him on 4 October 2019 in Edmonton.
Quick Thinking Officers Stop Vehicle and Uncover More Weapons
Coskun was caught with a BMW car key, which police traced to a nearby vehicle. Officers rushed to Plowmans Close just in time to stop the car being towed away. A search of the boot revealed a sawn-off shotgun with cartridges, a loaded Sig Sauer pistol, and two machetes.
He was charged swiftly and first appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court the same day.
Detective Praises Officers’ Instincts as Gun Crime Gets Tough Sentence
DC Adam Pursey, Specialist Crime North, said: “A call about dogs led to a huge seizure of three guns, weapons, and a stash of drugs. The officers’ quick thinking stopped the car just in time – if they’d been 30 minutes slower, the weapons would have vanished.”
“These firearms were live and dangerous, ready to cause serious harm. Coskun or someone else could have used them to commit violent crime. The 12-year sentence shows how seriously the courts treat gun crime. We’ll keep removing weapons and criminals from our streets to make London safer.
