Man Charged with Murder and Rape in South London Horror
Shane Simmonds, 38, from Parbury Road, SE23, appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 4 January. He faces a murder charge alongside two counts of rape involving a different woman.
Simmonds was remanded in custody and is set to appear at the Old Bailey on Monday, 8 January.
Tragic Discovery After Disturbing Police Call
The drama unfolded in the early hours of 3 January when a man turned up at a south London police station claiming he had harmed a woman at a Parbury Road address.
Officers rushed to the scene and found the body of a 32-year-old woman. While formal identification is pending, police have confirmed the deceased is Tia Simmonds, who lived at the property.
Tia’s family are being supported by specially trained officers during this devastating time.
Special Post-Mortem and Police Statement
A special post-mortem is scheduled for Friday, 5 January, at Greenwich Mortuary to determine the exact cause of death.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Webb, Met Specialist Crime Command, said: “As I have previously stated, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder. This is a truly tragic incident and our thoughts remain with Tia’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.”
