PC Luke Field Sacked After Drunk Driving Scandal
Birmingham cop Luke Field has been booted from the force after a shocking off-duty drink driving incident.
Stopped for Driving the Wrong Way
In June 2022, PC Field was pulled over by local police for driving the wrong way down a one-way street. A breath test showed he was over the legal alcohol limit. He was promptly arrested.
Failed Breath Test at the Station
At the police station, Field refused to provide an evidential breath sample without a valid excuse, breaching the Road Traffic Act 1988. He later pleaded guilty at Worcestershire Magistrates’ Court in October for this offence.
Dismissed for Gross Misconduct
The Chief Constable ruled Field’s actions as misconduct and dismissed him immediately.
Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi said: “Any conviction of a police officer is a serious matter that undermines confidence in policing. Policing is entrusted to uphold the law and this trust is diminished when police officers break the law.”
“Drink driving is a serious offence and is aggravated by failing to provide a specimen of breath when required. The risk of harm which may have been caused to the public, and PC Field himself, was significant.”
“PC Field’s conduct amounts to gross misconduct. As a result, I have dismissed him from service with immediate effect.”
