Fugitive Danny Whiting Caught After Dramatic Police Hunt
Danny Whiting, wanted by police for prison recall and breaking a restraining order twice, made a desperate bid to escape arrest in Mill Lane last Thursday (28 December).
High-Stakes Manhunt: Helicopters, Boats & Drones Deployed
Officers tracked Whiting to a Mill Lane address, but as they moved in, he bolted. A swift search ensued across tricky terrain and poor weather. HM Coastguard joined the chase, dispatching a boat and helicopter, while West Sussex Fire and Rescue scoured the riverbank.
Sussex Police’s drone and dog units combed the area alongside partner agencies. Their efforts paid off when Whiting was finally found, detained, and taken into custody.
29-Year-Old Sentenced to 24 Weeks in Jail
Whiting, 29, who has no fixed address, faced Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday (29 December). He was slammed with a 24-week jail term for breaching a restraining order twice and hit with a £154 victim surcharge.
Inspector Scott Walters said: “Sussex Police work hard to protect victims of crime. Our officers showed tenacity and teamwork to prove we won’t tolerate ongoing abuse. Offenders blatantly ignoring orders to protect vulnerable people will be caught and brought before the courts.”
