Birmingham Woman Caught Smuggling Drugs Into Prison
Ishmai Williams, 30, from Birmingham, was handed a suspended sentence at Winchester Crown Court today for trying to smuggle a stash of Class B drugs into Erlestoke Prison.
Suspended Sentence and Rehab Order
Williams was sentenced to nine months for each offence, suspended for two years. She must also complete 20 days of rehabilitation and pay a £156 victim surcharge.
Nearly 200g of Cannabis and Spice Seized
On May 5, 2022, Williams travelled to Erlestoke Prison carrying almost 200 grams of cannabis and seven sheets of A4 paper soaked with MDMB, a synthetic cannabinoid known as ‘Spice’. Prison officers immediately spotted the illegal haul when they detected the smell as she entered.
Zero Tolerance from Wiltshire Police
“Wiltshire Police has, and will continue to have, a zero-tolerance approach to this behaviour,” said Detective Inspector Tom Straker of Central CID.
“Williams, who was acting as a Legal Representative at the time, abused her position by attempting to sneak prohibited items into Erlestoke Prison. We accept the sentence imposed by the court, but this should serve as a clear warning to anyone thinking of bringing drugs into Wiltshire prisons or the surrounding area.”
