Notts Man Locked Up for Brutal Year of Abuse
Rowan Grant, 28, from Basford, Nottingham, has been jailed for 18 months after nearly a year of violent, controlling abuse against a woman. The sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court on 9 September, where Grant pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour.
Violent Outburst Caught by Police
Officers were called to a New Basford home on 26 June following a reported argument. Grant initially left the property but shockingly returned and dragged the woman by her hair around the kitchen. When police arrived again, the victim revealed a harrowing pattern of abuse dating back to September 2019. She disclosed multiple incidents, including being strangled until she struggled to breathe.
Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery
“This was a horrible case where Grant subjected a woman to abusive and controlling behaviour over the course of almost a year,” said Detective Constable Jas Athwal. “Violence is never acceptable, but to turn violent towards those you are supposed to love and care about is especially despicable.”
“I want to commend the courage shown by the victim in coming forward and helping us put Grant behind bars. To anyone out there going through something similar, please report it to us so we can support and protect you.”
Justice Served with Long Restraining Order
Alongside his 18-month jail term, Grant was handed a five-year restraining order, keeping him away from his victim. Authorities have urged anyone suffering abuse to speak up and seek help.
