Repeat Shoplifter Caught Red-Handed with Magnetic De-Tagger

Dale Tainton, 45, with no fixed address, was nabbed stealing from the Ruddington Co-op on January 7, 2023. When local officers caught him, he was carrying a magnetic de-tagging device, clearly ready to swipe more gear.

Eight Weeks Inside and Banned from Local Co-ops

Tainton pleaded guilty at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on January 16, earning himself an eight-week jail sentence for shoplifting and carrying tools to steal. With a lengthy criminal history, he was slapped with a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from stepping foot in any Co-op stores in Ruddington, Keyworth, West Bridgford, or Cotgrave.

Police Crack Down on Persistent Shoplifting

“This kind of repeat theft is a blight on our communities and won’t be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police,” said PC Stephen Piper.

“Shoplifting damages everyone living and working in our towns and villages. We’re on a mission to make Rushcliffe a safer, better place to live and work, and our anti-shoplifting campaign is central to this.”

“A small group of offenders commit the majority of thefts,” added Inspector Rob Lawton. “By targeting these individuals and teaming up with local businesses, we’re already seeing promising results.”

“Tainton’s criminal behaviour order sends a clear message to other thieves. We want local businesses to know we take this seriously.”

PC Piper received thanks for his hard work tackling the crime wave affecting local shops.
