Teens’ Death: Drunk Drivers Jailed for 14 Years
Omar Choudhury and Hamidur Rahman have been locked up for 14 years each after causing the death of 16-year-old Alisha Goup in Oldham. Both also face a 12-year driving ban for their deadly stunt behind the wheel.
Fatal Crash on Busy Rochdale Road
The tragedy struck on February 23, 2023, as Alisha strolled to Oldham Sixth Form College. A BMW mounted the pavement on Rochdale Road near Coldhurst Community Park and hit her fatally. The area is a bustling main road with footpaths, bus stops, zebra crossings, and homes.
Before hitting Alisha, the BMW crashed into a Ford Fiesta after reckless overtaking on the wrong side. CCTV footage exposed the men racing around Oldham streets at blistering speeds in two cars, with Rahman driving uninsured.
Chilling Recklessness and Violent Confrontation
The crash happened after an earlier public fight involving a baseball bat. Choudhury then drove on the wrong side, reversed into oncoming traffic, and sped off at 66mph—over double the limit—smashing into Alisha.
Despite the impact, Choudhury fled the scene, stopping only near Royal Oldham Hospital, where the public detained him until police arrived. Rahman was arrested a day later.
Community Outraged, Family Heartbroken
“Alisha was caring, selfless and sensible,” said her grieving parents. “Her loss has devastated our family.”
Police Sergeant Louise Warhurst praised the public’s role in the probe and lauded the family’s courage. She warned drivers to think twice before speeding or risking lives, making clear that dangerous driving won’t be tolerated in Greater Manchester.
