Dartford Postboxes Turned Colourful Canvas in Creative Vandal Spree

A Dartford postbox has been transformed into a giant crème egg, part of a bizarre wave of “criminal damage” cases where local postboxes are being colourfully painted.

Golden Glow and Mr Blobby Pink: The Postbox Makeovers

The painting frenzy kicked off between January 31 and February 5, 2024, when 26 postboxes in the Temple Hill area were sprayed gold. Then, on February 19, postboxes at Trevithick Drive, Wellcome Avenue, and Joyce Green Lane switched to a pink paint job with gold spots — looking suspiciously like the iconic Mr Blobby.

Royal Mail Battles to Restore Iconic Red

Royal Mail confirmed on February 7 that crews were working hard to repaint the postboxes back to their traditional red. Despite locals’ efforts over the weekend to restore order, the artistic vandalism continued this week with fresh colourful additions, including the crème egg design on St Vincents Road, painted in purple, gold, and red.

Kent Police Launch Investigation; One Arrest Made

Kent Police say inquiries are ongoing. One man was arrested on February 13 after officers spotted a suspect matching the description in Oldfield Place, Dartford. He has been released on bail until May 4 as the probe continues.

Mixed Reactions from Locals

  • One social media user slammed the crème egg box as “absolutely terrible.”
  • Another admired the effort, saying, “They have even got the font spot on.”

The colourful postbox saga shows no signs of slowing, as local authorities and residents grapple with this unusual blend of creativity and crime.
