High-Speed Chase Ends in Crashing Arrest
On Thursday 27th November 2025, Middlesbrough Proactive Team officers gave chase to Wilson Junior Wunganai, 38, after he ignored orders to stop on Palm Street. Driving a Volvo, Wunganai tore through town at breakneck speed. His reckless drive ended when he crashed into two brick planters trying to squeeze through a narrow pedestrian path near Borough Road.
Not done yet, Wunganai bolted on foot but was quickly caught after a short sprint.
Drugs and Thousands in Cash Found
Police found suspected cocaine worth around £360 on Wunganai at the time of arrest. A subsequent search of his Gretton Avenue home uncovered more cocaine, heroin, cannabis, and over £10,000 in cash. The haul clearly pointed to major drug-dealing activity.
Jailed and Banned Behind the Wheel
Wunganai faced a string of charges: possession with intent to supply class A drugs, cannabis possession, possession of criminal property, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.
On Friday 27th March at Teesside Crown Court, he was sentenced to 4½ years in jail and handed a 57-month driving ban.
