Ex-footballer Joey Barton, 43, and his mate Gary O’Grady, 50, have been hit with serious assault charges. The pair allegedly left a man battered and bruised near a Merseyside golf club.

Merseyside Police rushed to Fairway, near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club, at around 9pm on Sunday after reports of a violent attack. They found the victim with severe wounds to his face and ribs. He was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Road Shut as Police Launch Full Investigation

Officers closed the nearby road to gather evidence at the scene. Barton, from Widnes, and O’Grady, from Huyton, now face charges of Section 18 wounding with intent – a serious crime that suggests a planned assault.

Charged Duo to Face Court Today

Barton and O’Grady are due in front of Wirral Magistrates’ Court today to answer the charges against them.
