Knife Gang Jailed for Life Over Brutal Stabbing of Solomon Robinson
In the early hours of Sunday, 20 October 2019, Solomon Robinson was fatally stabbed in a shocking attack on St Nicholas Street. Five men – Stefan Selvage (19), Dawid Goral (21), Callon Brass (22), Kieran Watkinson (19), and Stevie Low (23) – launched a savage assault before fleeing the scene.
Robinson was rushed to hospital with a devastating 11-inch stab wound to his lower back, but he died three hours later from catastrophic bleeding.
Swift Police Action and Murder Charges
North Yorkshire Police acted fast, making multiple arrests within hours. All five were charged with Robinson’s murder. Selvage, from Colescliffe Road, admitted the charge the day before trial and received a life sentence with a 15-year minimum term.
The others denied murder, but after a four-week trial at Leeds Crown Court, they were found guilty on 5 February and sentenced to life imprisonment on 19 February.
Detective Superintendent Speaks Out
“This was an appalling act of premeditated violence,” said Detective Superintendent Fran Naughton. “Our thoughts remain with Mr Robinson’s family during this devastating time. Their dignity throughout the distressing court proceedings has been exceptional.”
“The group’s cowardly attack shows they are dangerous individuals. They have rightly been taken off our streets for a significant time.”
“Thanks go to Scarborough Borough Council CCTV operators and members of the public who helped provide critical evidence and first aid.”
“Let this sentence be a clear warning: even if you don’t hold the knife, you’re responsible if harm is caused.”
Chilling Evidence and Heartbreaking Family Impact
Snapchat footage shown in court revealed the gang partying hours before the attack, surrounded by drugs, weapons, and large sums of cash. CCTV captured the group walking through town before the stabbing. Dark shadows fighting near the town hall, some wielding knives, were clearly visible before the attackers fled and Robinson collapsed.
Robinson’s mother read a moving victim impact statement. She said: “Solomon’s death has destroyed my family. It has crushed our souls. I doubt we’ll ever be the same.”
His sister added: “Solomon had a heart of gold and would help others before himself. There are no words to describe our pain, but justice brings a glimmer of light.”
