Man, 22, Snared at Stansted in Terror Probe
Arrest Made at Stansted Airport
Detectives from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command swooped on a 22-year-old man at Stansted Airport around 5.30pm on Monday, 12 October. He was stopped under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and immediately arrested on suspicion of encouraging terrorism and spreading terror-related materials, offences under sections 1 and 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Held for Questioning in Central London
The man was taken to a central London police station under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 for questioning. But the probe didn’t stop there.
Further Charges and Extended Detention
In the early hours of 14 October, he was hit with a fresh arrest under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000. The new charge? Gathering information likely to aid terrorist acts, under section 58 of the 2000 Act.
Later that day, a magistrate granted a warrant allowing detectives to hold him until Monday, 19 October, ensuring the investigation can run its full course.
