A savage, unprovoked machete attack near Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has ended with Devon Brown locked up for life, serving at least 26 years. The 30-year-old was found guilty of murdering 46-year-old Okechukwu Iweha on 7 April 2024.
Fleeing Killer Nabbed in the US
Brown tried to dodge justice by fleeing to the United States the day after the horrific stabbing. But the Met Police tracked him down to Dallas, Texas, and hauled him back to the UK. He was arrested on 24 January 2025 and charged with murder.
Heroic Rescue Efforts Couldn’t Save Victim
Emergency services rushed to Northumberland Park at 5:51 am the morning of the attack. Despite CPR, defibrillator use, and emergency surgery by the Helicopter Emergency Service, Okechukwu was pronounced dead at the scene an hour later. The fatal wound was a stab to the chest.
Second Man Convicted of Cover-Up
Leandro Kaienga, 29, from Croydon, was cleared of murder but found guilty of perverting the course of justice. Arrested in April 2024, he’ll be sentenced with Brown at the Old Bailey on 19 December.
“The unprovoked attack shocked the local community. Justice has now been served,” a police spokesperson said.
