Brutal Murder of Mum of Four Shocks Primrose Hill
Jason Bell, 42, from Broxwood Way, NW8, has been slammed with a 22-year prison term for the savage murder of Nicole Hurley, 37, a devoted mother of four. The brutal killing unfolded in front of her children, three of whom witnessed the horrific attack.
Horrifying Attack Caught by Children at Home
Bell appeared at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 12 October, where he was handed 22 years for murder, plus seven more for false imprisonment and dangerous driving. The court heard Bell, a controlling partner, stabbed Nicole multiple times while her children were at home.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood said, “Nicole was murdered by Bell while her four children were at the address – three of them witnessed the frenzied attack on their mother. She suffered defence injuries to her forearms indicating she tried to shield herself from the blows Bell inflicted with at least two knives.”
The tragedy occurred on 10 October 2021 in Primrose Hill. Neighbours rushed to help, giving first aid and comforting Nicole’s traumatised children. Paramedics arrived but Nicole was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple stab wounds and signs of a violent beating.
Cold-Blooded Killer Tried to Cover His Tracks
After the murder, Bell packed a bag containing all the phones in the house to stop the children calling for help. He dumped the bag nearby, where passersby later alerted police. Inside, officers found a blood-stained knife.
Bell then confronted a male friend he wrongly accused of having an affair with Nicole. Holding the man captive overnight, Bell slept by the door to keep him locked in. The next day, Bell forced the friend into his car at knife-point. The friend bravely escaped and survived with minor injuries.
Bell was arrested that same day and charged with murder, false imprisonment, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified and uninsured.
Family’s Heartbreaking Plea Against Domestic Violence
DCI Eastwood added, “Nicole had been trying to leave Bell. She was isolated and controlled by his paranoia. He must now spend years where he can no longer harm the innocent.”
Bell’s defence claimed he lost control because of Nicole’s behaviour, but the jury rejected his lies.
Nicole’s devastated family vowed to raise awareness about domestic abuse. Her father, Tom, said, “We’ve lost a hugely important part of our family. The thought Nicole will miss so much of her children’s lives breaks us every day. This should never have happened.”
He continued, “Domestic violence has no place in society. Controlling someone by exploiting their vulnerabilities is one of the most despicable acts. This brutal, cowardly crime—mostly against women and girls—must end.”
