Ex-Met Police Officer Jailed for Stealing Dead Woman’s Bank Card
Shocking Theft from Deceased Victim
Amelia Lancaster, a former Metropolitan Police officer based at Wimbledon police station, has been sentenced to jail for stealing a bank card belonging to a hotel guest who had died by suicide. Between October 31 and November 16, 2022, Lancaster fraudulently spent £302.51 on Deliveroo and Amazon using the victim’s card.
Fraud Exposed by Victim’s Own Brother
The shocking scam was uncovered by the victim’s own brother, who also serves as a police officer. In a heartfelt victim impact statement, he slammed Lancaster’s actions, saying: “I cannot comprehend how morally bankrupt one must be to steal from the dead. You betrayed everything you stood for.”
Family’s Grief Worsened by Betrayal
During the court hearing, family members called Lancaster’s behaviour a devastating violation that compounded their pain. Lancaster pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud by false representation and misconduct in public office.
Justice Served – Officer Fired and Jailed
Judge Peter Lodder KC described Lancaster’s crimes as a “betrayal of public trust.” Following a gross misconduct hearing, she was dismissed from the force and sentenced to prison. The Metropolitan Police have condemned her conduct and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding integrity within the ranks.
