Kent Police Crackdown Nets 12 Drink and Drug-Driving Arrests in Just Three Days
Over a frantic weekend from 18 to 20 March 2022, Kent Police arrested a dozen drivers for drink and drug-related offences across Ashford, Canterbury, Thanet, and the M20 motorway. The blitz highlights the force’s tough stance on dangerous driving.
Sleepy Driver Nabs Arrest in Broadstairs
Among those detained was a 38-year-old Ramsgate man spotted dozing behind the wheel inside a drive-through car park in Broadstairs on the morning of Saturday 19 March. Meanwhile, a 29-year-old woman from Canterbury was arrested after a crash in Pin Hill early Sunday, suspected to be driving under the influence of drink or drugs. Both have now been released pending further investigations.

- Michael Moore, 33, Ramsgate – Charged with drink driving in Ellington Road, set for Margate Magistrates’ Court on 12 April.
- Steven Webster, 52, Ramsgate – Drink driving charge, bailed to Margate court on 12 April.
- James Harrington, 39, Margate – Drink driving, bailed to appear 19 April.
- Danny Garforth, 37, Margate – Drink driving in Cliftonville, court date 7 April.
- Jake Fox, 30, Herne Bay – Drink driving, Margate court 12 April.
- Michelle Burton, 43, Ashford – Drink driving, appearing at Folkestone Magistrates’ on 8 April.
- Scott Darby, 45, Herne Bay – Stopped on M20 near Folkestone, drink driving, court 20 April.
Police Warning: Think Before You Drink and Drive
PC Dave Sansum, Kent Police’s Drink and Drug Driver Liaison Officer for East Kent, said: “Our patrols are equipped with devices to test for alcohol and drugs. We routinely stop and check drivers to keep everyone safe on the roads. Arresting 12 people in just three days is concerning.”
