Serial Shoplifter Caught After Nearly 100 Thefts Worth £14,100

Martin Jackson, 40, from Erith, is heading to prison for three and a half years. Woolwich Crown Court sentenced him on September 19 after he pleaded guilty to 98 offences, including theft and breaching a restraining order. Jackson’s crime spree saw him snatch goods valued at over £14,100.

Boots and BP Among Businesses Targeted in Greenwich

Jackson’s crimes hit local businesses hard, especially a Boots store and a BP petrol station on Trafalgar Road. He is now banned from entering both for five years. Despite a previous Criminal Behaviour Order, he continued stealing thousands worth of food, alcohol, and toiletries – often in broad daylight.

Police Crack Down Following CCTV Evidence

Jackson’s July arrest led to a thorough police probe with hours of CCTV footage reviewed. The clear evidence forced him to plead guilty in early September. Greenwich’s Acting Superintendent Rav Pathania applauded the police effort and business cooperation. He said, “Jackson caused misery to businesses in Greenwich. We’ve worked hard to build closer links with local shops and take action on these problems.”

BP Security Manager Praises Police and Businesses

Iona Blake, BP’s Europe Mobility & Convenience Security Manager, stressed the importance of safety. “Safety comes first at BP, always. We want our colleagues to feel safe at work and our customers to have a great experience,” she said. Jackson’s conviction finally offers some peace to the community he relentlessly targeted.
